Façade on the street side - Part 1 : Cleaning + Making up the frame

And lot of work had been done.

長いこと更新せずにいました。
そしてたくさんの仕事をこなしてきました。

This time I'm gonna make a series of article on the renovation on the window/wall of the guest room - that is to say the upper window on the street.
今回の記事は、二階の「客の間」の窓の改修を追っていきたいと思います。
通りに面した窓の改修です。

As we wrote before this was the state after the structure of the room was remove.
前回の記事で書いたように、「客の間」の床の構造体は取り外された状態です。

First step was to make the wall clean, by removing all the unnecessary pieces of wood from the previous work.
まず、窓枠などの要らない部分の材を外してスッカラカンの状態にします。この面以外の壁を塗るときにつけた材なども、取り外しました。

The structural beam over the frame had to be slightly elevated in order for us to be able to remove the secondary structure.
窓枠の上ののぼり梁はわずかにジャッキアップされ、窓枠自体の上部分の取り外しが可能になります。

Here the former pillars are being cut.
既存の垂直部材はジャッキアップ後に切断。

The beam over the window seemed partially rotten, it had to be reinforced by a secondary beam placed under and linked to it.
It would also be used for the rails of the sliding windows.
Here the piece of wood is being adjusted.
窓の上の梁が部分的に腐っているので、窓枠自体の上部分がそれを補う形で接合されます。
これは同時に敷居としての役割も担います。
写真はぴったりの寸法で作った材がぴったりとハマる様子です。

The position of the vertical frame was decided and the beam made ready to imbricate perfectly.
窓枠の垂直部材の位置はノリで映画のスクリーンと同じアスペクト比に決められ（これが古建具屋さんに行っても埒があかない原因となったが笑）、水平部材との接合部もホゾを丁寧に作り込んだ。

The sliding rails and the junctions with the pillar were carved in the beam.
敷居の溝のある水平部材の、垂直部材との接合部。

Here is the detail of the pillar.

The pillars are then being adjusted.
そして、垂直部材ががっちりと接合。

Finally the wood is carved to receive the bolts, and link the the existing beam.
先ほどの腐りかけの梁との接合部はボルト締めで、それが敷居の機能を邪魔しないようにボルトは埋め込まれる。

In the next article I will detail how the bamboo net was set and the first layer of mud done.

今回の工事は比較的大掛かりなもので、みんなで声を掛けあって「せーの、コンっ！」と部材を嵌めて行きました。
次回はこの窓枠の周りに土壁を塗るための竹組と、粗壁の紹介をします。
