シロアリ問題が現在進行形で発生中 The problem with TERMITE is breaking out

ようやくわが家にもインターネットが開通した。
木と土でできた古い家の屋根の下で、光回線を引いてビュンビュンインターネットというのもいささか奇妙な感じがするが、すぐにいろいろと調べられるのはやはり便利である。
ここに移って来てからはインターネットと少し距離を置いた生活だったが、ピンクフロイドのレコードを聞きながらゆっくりと過ぎていく時間もそれはそれで素晴らしいものだった。（結構音響が良い）
これから少しずつではあるが、ここ一ヶ月で起こった事、今起こっている事をここに記していこうと思う。

さて、今回はそれらの中で最も重大な問題と思われることを書きたいと思う。

「シロアリ問題が現在進行形で発生中」です。
　入居後我々が始めたことは、不必要な化粧材や傷んだ天井をはがすことであった。いろいろと取り払うと、当初は現れてこなかった構造材が見えてくる。二層になっている部分と大屋根のかかる部分とが接続するところに差してある梁（松）の蟻害が甚だしいことが判明した。（図）この梁は大屋根を支える大梁の荷重を受けているので、これは建物全体の存続に関する問題である。またこの梁だけではなく、損傷具合は軽いが他の構造材にも多かれ少なかれシロアリが入っていることがわかった。以前はかなり雨が漏っていたそうなので、湿気を孕んだであろう木材（松が特にひどい）を中心に被害が大きい。大荷重がかかる主要構造体の補強工事は我々の手に余るので、先日アラキ工務店（瓦屋根改修工事も同工務店）に相談し、彼らの回答待ちである。
　またシロアリがまだこの家の木材と下の土壌のなかに彼らの帝国を存続していることがわかった。あれは忘れもしない5月7日の昼をまわったころだった。裏の庭でまとまった数の羽のついた虫（この時点では正体に気づいていない）が穴から這い出していたので殺虫剤をかけた。それから30分くらい後にふと家の中の通り側の部屋のあたりに目をやると、同じ虫が先ほどとは比べものにならないほど大量に（千単位と思われる）飛び回ったり窓を黒く埋め尽くして這い上がったりしていた。鳥肌ものであったが、とりあえず攻撃も加えてこないし、触れられても痛みやかゆみはなかったので、窓と戸を開けて虫が外に出るに任せた。すると小一時間で大群はバラバラと南のほうへ飛び去り、一部はその場で自ら羽を外して這い回ったがそのまま力つきていった。早速調べてみると「ヤマトシロアリ」のようだった。4月から6月に羽化し、巣の中でまかないきれなくなった個体が一斉に外に湧き出し新天地を求めて移動するが、いったん外の世界に出ると生存の確率は高くないそうだ（普段は暗闇と湿気を好むらしい）。もちろんシロアリの存在自体は一切悪いということはなく、セルロースを分解して自然のサイクルの一部を担ってくれていて、地球環境のバランスを保ってくれているのだが、この家を存続させて暮らしていくことを決意した我々としてはここにシロアリがいてもらってはとても困る。また、もし彼らの地下帝国がこの家に限らず周囲の家々にも及ぶとしたら、それは自分たちだけの問題ではなくなる。専門業者に状況を見てもらい、これ以上の被害が出ないよう対策をとってもらわなければならない。（こちらも現在見積もりを出してもらっている）

確かに問題は深刻であると思う。経験のある大工さんからでさえ否定的な意見も少なからず聞かれる。しかしどうにか知恵を絞り、いろいろな人に相談しながら解決してしていきたい。潰して駐車場にしてしまう方がはるかに経済的だった廃屋が、ギリギリのところで生きながらえ先に繋がれているのだ。そしてそれは少なくともすでに我々にとっては新たな価値や出会いを生みだしつつあるし、まわりの人たちにとってもそういう場になるようにしていきたい。覚悟はできている。

Finally we've got the internet connection.
I feel bit strange to use high-speed optical fiber technic in the old house of wood and earth, but It's really useful for searching things.
Since we moved here there were a kind of distance from internet. Relaxing time listening PINK FLOYD record was also nice. (I think we have good acoustic in this house)
I'm gonna write about the things happen to us last one month and now little by little.
So today I want to write about the most serious problems of them.

The first thing we did after moving in was removing all the unnecessary ornamental things or rotted things. After that, you can see the hidden structures. We found out the important structure (pine) which having the weight of the big beam under the big roof is eaten by termite. And some of the other parts are eaten as well but it's not that terrible like that pine. I heard this house had had water leaking for a long time before they changed roof. So in that term the wooden structures had moisture in it. Termite loves this kind of wood (especially pine). I know that we should not do anything with the main structures which have heavy weight. So we asked the construction company (ARAKI: they repaired the roof before) and waiting for their answer.

We also found out there still is termite's empire under the ground and in the wood of our house. It was just after noon 5th of May, I never forget. I found small insects with wings (not that much number, I didn't know what they really are yet) in the back yard and spray an insecticide. Like 30 minutes later, I found A LOT OF them inside the house!! Thousands of them were flying around or moving up on the window (it was like black window). It was so disgusting and I had goosebumps. But they didn't attack me and no pain or itch on my skin. I opened the window and the door and let them go out. After an hour most of them flew toward South or some of them removed their own wings then walking around and die out little while later. What kind of bugs were they? I looked up. It turned out "YAMATO SHIROARI": one kind of termite which eats timber. Some of them in their nest emerges between in April and June and fly away to find new place to live. Because there are too much individuals inside the nest. I heard that most of them would die out after they get out of the nest. Usually they inhabit dark and moist place. Of course they are doing nothing bad. We need them to keep whole earth balance. But for us who decided to live and renovate this house they are not really welcome. And we also should concern about the neighbors. if the nest spread out, It's dangerous for the houses around as well.

Yes, it's serious problem. The well experienced carpenters told us negative negative opinions. We really want to break through the problems and continue this project and life. This house could be taken down and become a parking or something(it's much more cheaper). But our owner is trying to keep the house. And we moved into here. This is creating new worth and encounters for us. I hope It will be like this for the people around us as well. Never give up.
