Facade on the street side - Part 2 : Bamboo and Mud

First of all happy new year from all members of Doma !

まず始めに、皆様あけましておめでとうございます。

Due to recent birth and the rush that preceded it's been a while since we haven't kept people posted on the house.
The project went really forward for the past month and we will keep you posted this week with the major changes that occurred in the house.

最近の子供の誕生と先立つ忙しさで、なかなか記事がかけずにいました。
もう過ぎてしまったプロジェクトですがこの家に起こった大きな変化を、今週中に皆様にお届けできると思います。

So let's start this new year by a good resolution and write more often about the work!
では、今年を確固たる決意と、たくさんの仕事の記事を書くことから始めていこうと思います！

Before that I would like to finish writing about the facade wall as we made an article quite a long time ago entitled : Façade on the street side - Part 1.

手始めに、かなり前に書いた通り側の窓の改修の記事を終わらせようと思います。

We closed the article by a picture of the wall with finished wooden structure / frame :

前回の記事はこの木枠ができた所で終わりました。

Next step was thus to make a bamboo frame that would "receive" the mud and thus make the stability of the wall.
A primary grid is made with bigger bamboo that are placed/linked directly into wood frame.

次のステップはこの木枠に、土壁を受けるための竹の構造を編んでいくことです。
大きな竹で「えつり」と呼ばれる基準となる部分を編んでいきます。これは直接木枠に固定します。

A secondary grid made of smaller bamboos is then added to the first one using straw ropes.
A layer is made on the outer side of the primary net.

「えつり」と「えつり」の次に、小さく割った竹で「小舞」を足してゆきます。園芸用のわら紐を使って、編んでゆきます。
まずここでは「えつり」の網の外側に縦方向の「小舞」を足してゆきました。

And then a second one on the inner side

そして内側に横方向の「小舞」を足してゆきます。

The net finished.

こうして竹編みが完成。

Final step is then to apply mud on the grid using the same method we detailed for other walls, and the work is done !

最後は、他の壁と同様の手法で竹に壁を塗ってゆきます。
