Past days gathering : making the walls DAY 1

I'll now try to write some articles on a more regular schedule to keep the project updated - maybe on a 2-3 days basis, we might also publish one longer article per month on a selected subject depending on the schedule and the work done.

Those past 2 days were quite important for the Doma community, as Monday (10th) was a national holiday (sports day), many people decided to help - or even just visit us.
It was a good opportunity to gather people around the construction of 2 important walls :
先日の休日二日間（九日、十日）は、土間の家の多くの友達が手伝いに来てくれた、すばらしい日々でした。
一連の二つのパートの大壁を、２チームに分かれて塗ってもらいました。

• 1/ the upper wall between the friends room and the top of the common rooms

１.ゲストルームと共有部屋の間の二階部分の壁

• 2/ the south side wall of Taku and Sarah's room

２.タクとサラの部屋の南側の壁

The first task for both team was to prepare the mud and mix it in order to have a homogeneous material for both walls that would be easily applied by hand on the wall, as well as to prepare a way to transport the mud on the roof.
まずはじめに、１つのチームは壁に塗る土を用意しました。土間の奥の庭で、二つのパートが均質になるように配合をきめて、元々壁であった取り外した土と新しく買った土を混ぜました。
そして、工事現場である二つのパートにそれぞれ運びます。
これが準備段階。

Then the proper work could start, Paulo and Masashi on the roof were in charge of making the first layer of mud.
そしていよいよメインの塗り仕事が始まり、ポロとマサシが[２.]の壁に一番下のレイヤーである粗壁を塗っていきました。

The earth used was mixed with straw in order to straighten it as it will dry.
It is applied by hand with a spatula on the bamboo grid.

土は「コテ」で竹の網目構造体に押し付けられていきます。

The main difficulty came from the inclination of the roof, becoming slippery because of earth drops.
You can see on the picture how we tried to secure it with a ladder.
足元の屋根の傾きに土が落ちると滑るので、厳重な注意を払い作業は進みます。

The supply in mud had to be continuous in order for the team to work properly. Here Sarah,Kengo and Shoma refiling the guys.
壁を塗る間も、混ぜた土を現場に供給する作業は続きます。
サラとケンゴ、ショーマが屋根伝いに運んでいます。

As the window was rotten it was decided after a while to destroy it, making the access on the roof easier, but also leaving the room totally open to the outside. A visually striking operation, especially for the neighbors.
予定には無かったのですが、塗っている壁に直行するぼろぼろの窓と壁も解体し、屋根に上りやすくしました。
しかし部屋は完全に外と繋がってしまいました。特に近所の方々にとっては人目を引く作業工程だったかもしれません。

By the end of the day the first layer was finished
九日の終わりに、[２.]の壁が終わりました。みんな遅くまでありがとう。

On the other side you can still see how the mud is being "pressed through" the net.
壁の内側からみると、土が竹の構造体の間からムニュっとはみ出てきています。シュークリームみたいに。

The second part of the job was to realize the bamboo net on the wall that I was mentioning previously, in order to prepare it for the mud operation.
同時に[1.]の壁にも、先ほどの竹の構造体を編んでいきました。

The way bamboo are arranged and linked together is very important as it makes the stability of the wall.

竹の構造同士がしっかり繋がり安定しないと、壁が頼りないものになってしまいます。

It is a very careful and precise work. Gerg trained the team to the task.
この作業はとても繊細で性格なものになります。ゲルグがこちらのチームに仕事内容を伝えています。

The task was also made more difficult by the situation of the wall. Here Yassi and Shu at work on the scaffolding.
先ほどの屋根の上での作業同様、こちらも不安定な場所で行われます。yassiとシュウが足場の上で作業しています。

By the end of the day the primary net was done, leaving the horizontal net for the second day.
竹を組む作業は九日の終わりに、主要な部分は終わりました。十日に壁を塗る前に、水平方向の部材を入れました。

Let's make a special mention to the "resources supply team", that made a hell of a job "fooding" workers and dispatching first necessities. (I think they should become presidents)
「配給部隊」にも敬意を表さなければなりません。これだけの大人数に、最も必要な食事を準備するという大役をこなしたビクトーとヤンカ！
